Join Lynette Melnyk for this 1.5‑day workshop exploring asemic writing as a visual language shaped by mark making, gesture, rhythm, and space.

Workshop Description:

What happens when writing is no longer meant to be read?

Through guided exercises and experimentation, participants will work with a range of tools and materials to develop marks and compositions that sit between writing and image.

We will look at how repetition, movement, scale, harmony, and negative space affect how a piece is read visually, and how simple elements can be organized into balanced compositions.

The focus is on exploration, observation, and developing new approaches to working with writing as image rather than language.

Whether you're a calligrapher, mixed-media artist, or simply curious about composition and asemic writing, you'll leave with a collection of exploratory work, new ideas for your creative practice, and a fresh perspective on the relationship between writing, mark making, and composition.
