Welcome to the Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild!
Celebrating 45 years of lettering, learning, and community in 2026, the Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild (BVCG) was founded in 1981 and incorporated as a Society on January 6, 1983. For more than four decades, we have inspired, encouraged, and shared the art of calligraphy, hand lettering, and paper arts. From our humble beginnings, we have grown into a vibrant community of approximately 200 members who share a passion for beautiful letters and creative expression.
Whether you are picking up a pen for the first time or have decades of experience, you'll find a welcoming community eager to learn, create, and inspire one another.
Based in Calgary, Alberta, we offer informative meetings, classes, workshops, exhibitions, and special events, both in person and online. Local visitors are welcome to attend one of our meetings, while members from across Canada and around the world participate in our many online offerings. Although our roots are firmly grounded in traditional pen-and-paper calligraphy, we also embrace digital lettering and contemporary creative practices.
Members receive The Journal three times a year, featuring artwork, articles, techniques, and Guild news. We also maintain an extensive library of more than 300 books and journals, with an online catalogue that allows members to browse, reserve, and renew materials with ease.
Throughout the year, the Guild offers affordable classes and workshops taught by talented instructors, both local and international. News about upcoming events is shared through our free biweekly eBulletin, website, Facebook, and Instagram.
From September through June, members enjoy monthly gatherings featuring Show & Share, access to the Guild library, and enriching programs such as our Galleria, guest speakers, demonstrations, hands-on activities, presentations, and field trips. Our popular Drop-In Calligraphy Days provide dedicated creative time to practice lettering and connect with fellow members, while winter online enrichment sessions bring internationally recognized instructors directly to your home.
As we celebrate our 45th anniversary, we honour the volunteers, teachers, artists, and members whose passion has shaped the Guild since 1981. Together, we continue to preserve the traditions of lettering while embracing new ideas, new technologies, and the joy of lifelong learning.

The Guild holds its Annual General Meeting in May of each year. At this meeting, the members receive the Annual Report and Financial Statements. The public copy of the 2026 Annual Report is available HERE.
