Punchy & Playful: Stunty Romans

When Ross F. George developed his Stunt Roman letters style in the 1920s, he had in mind the needs of show card writers: punchy, flashy, easy-to-learn letters.  A hundred years later, calligraphers and lettering artists still need (and love) punchy, flashy, and easy-to-learn letters!  In this 2-hour program, we will capture the essence of George's playful letters, learn how to assemble them like puzzle pieces, and build them up like sketch artists to create letters with weight, texture, and visual interest.

Instructor:

Nina Tran is calligrapher from Los Angeles, California whose initial love for the technicalities of letters has evolved into a life-long pursuit of learning and understanding what it means to lead a creative life.  She teaches a variety of scripts, including Copperplate, Spencerian, Gothic Textura, Gothicized Italic, Fraktur, as well an assortment of monoline lettering styles.  When she is not fiddling with the alphabet, she enjoys reading, knitting, and being out in nature.
