Also called "Blackletter", this alphabet with its "picket-fence-like" lower case
letters contrasts with curvy capital letters. Renate's capitals are strongly
influenced by typeface designed by Rudolf Koch, and students will receive a
handout of the original typeface as well as her version of each letter. Designed
for beginners and for calligraphers who would like to add this alphabet style to
their repertoire, this workshop will give you a good sense of spacing between
and inside letters, and give you a style that would lend itself beautifully to
formal documents, certificates, Goth tattoos, or your favourite German
quotation! We will work on the lower case and capital letters, as well as
embellish the letter. Renate enjoys all kinds of alphabet hands, but this one is
a particular favourite.
When: Saturday & Sunday, February 20 & 21, 2010 - 9 am to 4 pm
Fee: $84 ($80 + GST) members / $105 ($100 + GST) non-members - includes material
fee.
Level: All
Beginner level lettering classes will be offered to teach you calligraphic
terms, how to use the tools and which supplies you will "need"! Several
different calligraphic hands will be offered. In classes you will look at
spacing and basic principles and learn how to use analytical and rhythmic
practice techniques that will help you in your ongoing calligraphic practice.
We will try small personal classes with great instructors to suit your
interests.
If you would like to learn calligraphy or to improve your lettering in any hand
you have already been working on, please contact the Workshop Registrar
or call 403-271-8228 for more information.
