 Letters and Collage Galleria – Thursday, September 21, 2023

Those of you who follow me (Annette Wichman) on social media know that I’ve been working with collage. For our first Galleria topic of the brand-new calligraphic year, I’d like you to include an element of collage in your design. This can be as simple as a single piece of paper or several layered pieces of paper. Consider using paper that you’ve created (like gelli printed or marbled papers) or store-bought papers like Japanese or scrapbooking papers.

Your lettering can overlap the collage papers, run alongside or you can come up with your own design. OR use collage papers to make your letters – cut them out or tear them out in one piece or several parts.

Papers can be collaged onto your surface using something as simple as a glue stick. Take care if you use gel medium. You want to make sure that you can do your calligraphy on top once it’s dry.
